2022 Saxum Bone Rock | James Berry Vineyard, Willow Creek District, Paso Robles California 750ml 77% Syrah 10% Graciano 8% Mataro 3% Petite Sirah 2% Roussanne
...Deep garnet-purple colored, after a swirl or two it leaps from the glass with intense notes of black cherry compote and fresh wild blueberries, giving way to hints of lilacs, licorice, tapenade, and wet slate. The full-on, full-bodied palate is super-concentrated with bold black and blue fruit layers, supported by velvety tannins and a lively line, finishing long and fragrant. Such a beauty! This fruit came in before the heatwave, since it is an earlier ripening location, and it absolutely shimmers! | 100, Lisa Perrotti-Brown for The Wine Palate
...the 2022 Bone Rock was fermented with 22% stem inclusion and aged in 84% new 225-liter French oak. Dark berry fruits, pepper, leather, crushed stone, and dried herbs/sage all define this full-bodied, deep, rich, and pure wine. It has beautiful tannins, no hard edges, and ripe, polished tannins that make this killer stuff. 470 cases produced. | 98 Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com
...opens with a deep, lush nose of black, blue and purple fruits, along with hints of incense, black pepper and crushed stone aromas that develop with aeration. The palate is the most opulent and generous among the 2022 block designates, coating the mouth with a slow-moving, staining richness that carries through the similarly decadent, tight and laser-focused finish. I find this to be a more fruit-driven expression of this bottling while still maintaining the power and purity that drinkers can typically expect from it. I look forward to watching its progress in the cellar... | 96, Matthew Luczy for Wine Advocate
