If you've ever hung out with me in our tasting room I'm sure I've said Grenache is Pinot Noir on steroids. Grenache delivers what Pinot promises. It can be savory, electric and full of verve from the coastal reaches of California. It can also be deep and hedonistic when grown in the warmer canyons and hidden valleys that are hotter and deeper inland. If Petite Sirah is the beast then Grenache is the beauty. It is fragile, fickle, and very hard to grow and craft. Grenache is always one of two characters - It is either ethereal and absolutely jaw dropping, or it is my very least favorite lot in the cellar and we dump it. In my book there doesn't seem to be a middle ground for this gorgeous vixen. It is a maddening varietal and perhaps that is what draws me in so deeply. I am infatuated with Grenache and its ability to speak to where it's grown, its unending idiosyncrasies and ability to capture the imagination. 2019 was an amazing vintage, with a long growing season that allowed wine makers to hang fruit for a very long time. This ensured maturity in late ripening varietals like Grenache, and allowed for full flavor development and depth of flavor. The 2 2 Tango Grenache is a selection of my favorite barrels from up and down the central coast in 2019. It is very rich and ripe and is teetering on the edge of the absurd. I blended small amounts of Graciano and Syrah to bring savory support and brightness to reel the Grenache back into balance. A two hour decant and serving at cellar temp (54 degrees) is highly recommended. It will be a fun wine to follow over the next 6-8 years. | Levo Wines...terrific... it has a cool, lively, incredibly elegant style to go with textbook Grenache notes of red and blue fruits, ground pepper, and herbes de Provence. It has fabulous purity of fruit, and I'm a fan... | 95 points, Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com
