One of the crown jewels we get to work with, Old Hill Ranch is one of the monuments of the fantastic 2023 vintage. Planted in the mid-1880s, the field blend of 30+ varieties is carefully tended by our dear friend, Will Bucklin, whose oversight the last two and a half decades (!) has preserved and rehabilitated what was already one of the world's greatest old vine vineyards. My Dad started crafting legendary wines from this site in the early 1980s and this is the first wine we have created since we started working with the fruit that I think can stand alongside my father's legendary 1991 and 1994 vintages from the ranch, and is certainly a worthy successor to the 2022 vintage which garnered the highest Zin score ever in Wine Spectator magazine. Picked on October 6th at perfect ripeness, this wine combines the richness of the site with the freshness and deep color imparted by the long, cool growing season.
