2016 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir | Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County California 750ml

While it's easy to think of the appellation blends as being the entry-level cuvées, with the quality always being higher with the single vineyard release, don't make that mistake. The appellation blends can often surpass single vineyard releases and, in my experience, can age just as gracefully. The 2016 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills is a beautiful wine well worth your time and money. Offering classic cherry and framboise fruit, complex spice, forest floor, and rose garden nuances, medium body, and a seamless, savory personality, it's going to keep for 8-9 years. | 94 points, Jeb Dunnuck for jebdunnuck.com

Soft and elegant with aromas of lifted red fruits; such as pomegranate, white tea and raspberry. Bright and high energy. Structured tannins backed with slight minerality. Layered fruits including hints of truffle, ripe Bing cherries and dried figs. Vineyard Sources: La Encantada, John Sebastiano, and Vineyard Francesca | Kosta Browne

Each vintage, Kosta Browne showcases the character of Pinot Noir across California in a collection of appellation-specific blends. An earnest expression of the place reveals the shape of each wine. Crisp red fruit, freshness, and precision mark the Sonoma Coast blend that includes fruit from Gap's Crown, Kanzler, and Griffin's Lair vineyards. The Russian River Valley blend has that hallmark texture with a full mouthfeel and a broad palate of ripe raspberry, cherry, and pomegranate. An abstract playfulness runs wild through the Santa Lucia Highlands blend where five vineyard sources - all farmed by the infamous Garys (Pisoni & Franscioni) - contribute savory game flavors, whiffs of olives and dried fruits to a deeply structured wine. Each is unique and full of character with a sure sense of identity. 2016 marks the first vintage with an appellation blend from the Sta. Rita Hills AVA of Santa Barbara County including vineyard sources at La Encantada, John Sebastiano, and Vineyard Francesca. |Falling Bright
