When it was first planted in 1996, Kanzler was one of the first vineyards in the rolling hills southwest of the small picturesque town of Sebastopol in western Sonoma County. It needs a little coaxing to unlock fragrant scents of black raspberries, rose oil, and juicy cherries, leading to suggestions of tar, crushed rocks, and black truffles. Floral-laced black berry layers slowly build on the medium to full-bodied palate, textured by beautifully plush tannins, finishing long and earthy.
