Stony Hill Vineyards are the perfect example of a family owned and operated wine growing and wine making property that has been doing things right in the Napa Valley for decades. Their vines have been established in the Spring Mountain District since the 1940s and they have maintained their old World minimalist style since their first harvest in 1952. The 2014 vintage Gewurztraminer was harvested from vines ranging in age from 25 to 55 years old. They're dry farmed and Napa Green Certified. Their roots run deep to pull in volcanic limestone terroir that is reflected in the purity and austere profile of the wine. The rich smooth body and light touch of acidity frame up nicely with this mineral finish. One of the rare successes of a traditional Alsace varietal found here in California. 320 cases produced.
There is a lot going on at first smell. Spice, dried herbs, dried fruit, dried flowers which moves to a still very tightly wound mid-palate with glimpses of those dried flowers and herbs, plum, dark cherry and firm tannins that will gracefully soften with years or decades of age. Certified Organically Grown. 145 cases produced. | Evesham Wood
Approachable at the pull of the cork, explosive aromas of black cherry, blackberries and Hoisin mingle with elevated notes of roasted hazelnut and cedar for a seductive perfume. The sensation of blackberry jam, ripe plum and cola nut carry forward on the palate with a mouth coating depth and trailing finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a cadre of Italian Mixed Blacks represent the III of HG III. Praised with 90 points by the Wine Advocate, "it gives appealing, pure black fruit flavors, with soft and plush tannins paving the long, spicy finish."
