2013 Brainchild Petite Sirah by Patrick McNeil Wines | Napa Valley California RED
75% Petite Sirah, 13% Zinfandel, and 12% Grenache from three select Napa Valley Vineyard sites, Kenefick Ranch, Muhlner Steps, and Somerston, are brought together in the Brainchild blend that shows depth and intensity balanced with bright tone. Rich layers of black fruit, tobacco, vanilla perfume and spice are well received in the bouquet and complemented in the palate by a smash up of marionberry, blackberry, and currant. 200 cases produced.
2014 Slacker Wines Computer Geek by Linne Calodo | Paso Robles California RED
The philosophy at Slacker Wines (if they must have one) is Whatever. It's Wine. Just Enjoy it. As a side project to the Linne Calodo wines, Slacker blends are considered to be a delicious break from the more 'important' wines of the Willow Creek District AVA in Paso Robles. The 2014 blend of 70% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, and 10% Syrah shows dried fig and pomegranate offset by cedar, leather, and black truffle. Earthy scents of moss and mushroom mingle with barnyard characters. A dry and angular palate has just enough flesh. Sweet and savory are in balance with plum, rhubarb coulis, olive tapenade & a whiff of eucalyptus.
2014 Disciples by The Crane Assembly | Napa Valley California RED
Dave Phinney, godfather to the explosively popular Zinfandel-based Prisoner wine, is continuing to raise up fiercely expressive red wine blends in his latest project The Crane Assembly. In partnership with Darryl Browman, Bryan Sandoli, and winemaker Kevin A. Fox, he is crafting wines from the historic GB Crane Vineyard site where they have found parcels of field blended "mixed blacks" to be some of the oldest in the Napa Valley. The Disciples blend of 93% Old Vine Zinfandel with 7% Petite Sirah includes fruit from the GB Crane estate as well as Morisoli in Rutherford, Milat in St. Helena, and other esteemed vineyards considered to be disciples of the character found at Crane. The Zinfandel gives mouthfulls of blue and black fruits, elderberry, blueberry compote, and damp redwood forest. Pleasing umami sensation of wild Porcini plays around on the mid palate and the touch of Petite Sirah adds extra flesh and texture as well as a characteristic dark cocoa and cinnamon stick.
